Sketching in Tuscany is Moving to Montrèal!!

After four great years of drawing and painting classes in Florence, my wife and I (and our dog) are picking up and moving to Montrèal in Quebec, Canada. Group of families from Santa Barbara

Just recently I had the wonderful pleasure of conducting a lesson with a group of families visiting from Santa Barbara, California. Our lesson was in the great open-air classroom of the Loggia dei Lanzi next to Piazza Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, the Florence 'city hall' since medieval times. The group was varied in age, from four years old to bigger 'kids'. We all had a great time sketching, and also trying out some watercolors, too! Here are some comments:

"This experience with Mike was truly fabulous. My four year old son, ten year old daughter and her friends and the moms all learned and enjoyed the sketching. We will look at things with a fresh pair of eyes and notice shapes and dimensions. I will continue to keep the sketch pad and pencil at hand as we travel. Thank you!"

Dear Friends, starting on April 9th I will be offering a new course, 'Quick Figure Sketching', from the model. The course will run eight weeks and finish on June 4th. The cost is €200. The class was great, really enjoyed it. The tips and personal one-on-one advice was very helpful. The information/demo was very useful in regards to the steps in sketching. I was definitely able to reconsider perspective choices when choosing what to draw with the advice I was given. I would be more than happy to take more classes. Also beneficial - the small number of students made it very easy and more personal. Thank you!

I enjoyed today’s lesson. I thought it was productive in that it got me sketching again. I liked the location and the lesson/demo that Mike gave at the beginning
was helpful. I would definitely take another class. Thank you!

Palazzo Strozzi Thursday Evening Sketching / Giovedì Sera Sketch a Palazzo Strozzi

In November I began collaborating with Palazzo Strozzi to offer a new series of sketching lessons in the galleries. So far there have been two lessons for the Bronzino show, the first focusing on drawing the face, and the second on drawing the human figure. Both lessons were attended to capacity, with a maximum of 15 participants. The reviews were great and everyone really enjoyed the experience...especially me! It is a true honor to teach in this incredibly inspiring setting. The third lesson for the Bronzino show will be focused on drawing the draped figure, and will be held on Thursday, January 13th from 8pm to 10pm. A novembre comincai a collaborare con Palazzo Strozzi per offrire una nuova serie di lezioni di sketch nelle gallerie. Finora sono stati due lezioni per la mostra di Bronzino, la prima concentrato sul tema di disegnare il volto e la seconda su come disegnare la figura umana. Entrambi lezioni erano frequentati al capacità massima, con 15 partecipanti. Le recensioni erano molto positivi e tutti sono piaciuti la esperienza...più che altro io! E' una vera onore insegnare in questo posto incredibilmente ispirante. La terza lezione per la mostra di Bronzino si focalizzarà su disegnare la figura drappeggiata, e sarà tenuta giovedì il 13 gennaio dalle 20.00 alle 22.00. Disegnare è rilassante. E' molto difficile cogliere l'espressione del volto e molto soddisfacente quando ci si avvicina almeno! Grazie a Mike perchè le sue spiegazioni sono illuminanti e si percepisce la sua grande passione. Veramente eccezionale!

Mike Wiesmeier's "Palazzo Strozzi Sketching on Thursdays" was an excellent learning experience! He is a wonderful teacher and explained various concepts in a very simple manner. I look forward to the next lesson and would highly recommend it to anyone.

E' stato una lezione molto interessante e divertente, in cui Mike ci ha spiegato molto bene la struttura e anatomia del corpo. Ci ha spiegato molto bene di vedere la figura più fluida e stutturata di piccoli cilindri che aiuta molto a disegnare meglio. Sarò contenta di tornare e partecipare a la lezione di gennaio!

I enjoyed the event and would definitely come back. This was the first lesson I took with this drawing class and I already can tell you that I learned a lot. Hopefully after taking a few more classes with you my drawing skills will improve greatly. I look forward to your next class.

Una lezione davvero interassante in così poco tempo Mike è riuscito a trasmetterci la tecnica ed il metodo giusto per cogliere i dettagli e le proporzioni della figura umana. Io che sono così negata per il disegno sono riuscita a tirare fuori molto e questo mi ha reso contenta! Grazie Mike!
